Top LeT commander, aide killed in Banihal

Srinagar, April 25: A top commander of pro-Pakistan Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) militant outfit and his accomplice were killed in a surgical operation by the joint team of security forces in Baihal area of Ramban district on Sunday morning.

According to a Defence Ministry spokesman in Jammu, “Two dreaded terrorists of LeT were eliminated in a joint operation conducted by the Army and the State police in general area Khadi near Banihal in Ramban district”.

The Defence spokesman said, the slain terrorists have been identified as most wanted terrorist and top LeT Commander of Pir Panchal belt, Ayaz Ahmed Malik, alias Musa, and Farooq Ahmed, alias Zulkar Nain.

In the past LeT commander Musa had escaped the cordon and was involved in many attacks on security forces. He was the mastermind behind the killing of two TA jawans at Bhimdasa, Gul. Zulkar Nain was active in Shopian belt of south Kashmir and shifted his base to south Pir Panchal area in 2008, the Defence spokesman said.

The troops recovered one AK-47 and one AK -74 rifle, six magazines, 160 rounds, one Chinese grenades, a satellite phone, a mobile phone, a pair of binoculars, a compass and assorted dry rations from their hideout in Banihal area of Ramban district, the spokesman said.
