Top free VPN apps in Play Store are leaking your data, reveals study

A new report has suggested that the top free VPN apps in Android are actually home to many privacy leaks and malware as the research was analyzing 150 free and popular VPN apps for Android.

According to a new study published by Top10VPN.com, more than 25 per cent of the 150 most popular free VPNs in the Google Play Store does not properly protect users privacy, and up to 85 per cent of them open users up to several security vulnerabilities.

Over 38 VPN apps tested positive for DNS leaks, exposing private data to hundreds of insecure links and over 27 VPN apps were flagged as potential sources of malware when tested by VirusTotal, said Simon Migliano, the head of this research.

Apart from this, the research also found intrusive permissions in over 99 apps. These permissions included user location, device information, use of the microphone, camera access and more.

Users who are concerned about privacy and security are advised that free VPNs might not be capable of working successfully. In case if you are looking for a secured VPN to keep your data private and secure, check it out by clicking here
