Tohra’s family members join AAP

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab received a shot in the arm after family members of former SAD leader late Gurcharan Singh Tohra joined the party on Tuesday.

Tohra’s son-in-law Harmel Singh, his wife Kuleep Kaur and their son Harinderpal Singh along with several of their supporters, joined AAP “unconditionally” in the presence of Punjab’s party affairs in-charge Sanjay Singh and senior leaders Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi.

Singh welcomed Tohra’s family members in the party and said this will further strengthen the AAP.

“I am inspired by the policies and programmes of AAP, and confident that the party will provide neat and clean governance in Punjab,” Harmel said after joining the party here.

“I am pained that the Akali Dal has decided to give the party ticket from Patiala rural to a person who is not even a primary member of the party,” he said.

He rejected suggestions that he was an aspirant for the AAP ticket. “The decision on party ticket will be taken by the AAP leadership,” he added.

Tohra was president of Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), considered to be mini-parliament of Sikhs, for over two decades.
