Toddler rescued alive 4 days after Kenya building collapse

Nairobi: A one and a half year toddler was was rescued from the rubble of the first floor building after four days of the incident when a building collapsed in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The rescue team rushed the child to the Kenyatta National Hospital. The child is now in the stable condition said the officials.

A six-story building with 198-room got collapsed due to heavy rains on Friday evening, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 people, according to the latest numbers put forth by rescue teams. More than 60 have also been reported missing.

Nairobi police chief Japheth Koome said. “This is a miracle, the toddler was found alive four days after the building collapsed, rescue efforts are still ongoing.”

Kenya Red Cross, which played a part in the rescue mission tweeted: “Good news! A child aged about one and half years rescued alive at 0400 hours and referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.”

It has since emerged the house never had a plan nor was it approved by authorities.

The hunt for more officials involved in the construction is ongoing.

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu said on Monday that the ministry is working in collaboration with the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to ensure that all survivors receive ample treatment and medical care.
