TN leading in providing quality health care to poor: CM

Chennai, April 11: Tamil Nadu is leading other states in providing quality health care to the poor, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today and credited it to the schemes launched by his government last year.

“There are no two opinions on the state being a leader in providing quality health care to the people. The Kalaignar insurance scheme launched in 2009 being the jewel in the crown of the DMK’s four year rule,” he said.

Karunanidhi said 1.44 crore people living below the poverty line have so far enrolled in the Kalaignar insurance scheme and around 69,278 persons have been benefited so far.

He was speaking at a function to felicitate Apollo Hospitals Founder-Chairman Dr Pratap C Reddy on being conferred the Padma Vibushan award.

The CM congratulated Dr Reddy for conceptualising ‘tele-medicine’, which helps people receive treatment in their homes.
