New Delhi, April 18: The April 13 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Kerala recorded the highest ever polling percentage for the two states, the Election Commission said today.
EC Director General Akshay Raut said Tamil Nadu witnessed an 11 per cent rise in polling percentage while Kerala saw a 4.21 per cent increase from the last Assembly elections.
This polling percentage does not include postal ballots and it is the highest recorded by these states so far, Raut said.
The states of Assam and Puducherry also witnessed a high polling percentage this time, Raut said, adding that it was following the trend of Bihar and Jharkhand where polls were held earlier.
He said the increase in percentage was due to active campaigns carried out by the EC by using national and well as state icons besides the maximum use of the mass media.
