TN to come out with new Industrial Policy: Minister

Chennai August 17: The Tamil Nadu Government would shortly unveil a comprehensive new Industrial Policy to attract more domestic and foreign investments, Industries Minister S P Velumani announced in the State Assembly today. Replying to the debate on the Demand for Grants for his department, he said in the recent past, certain fast-growing states had formulated liberalised investment policies with a view to attract more domestic and foreign investments. In such a competitive environment, to regain the top place in industrialisation and to improve the momentum of growth, the government would bring out a comprehensive new Industrial Policy, he said. Earlier, presenting the Demand for Grants, the Minister said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had recently announced the government would also bring out a policy document — Vision 2025 –for the state. Steps would be taken towards achieving the long term goal by making the state more investor-friendly and creating the infrastructure required to attract fresh investment into the State. Due to the Industrial Policy brough out by the previous AIADMK Regime in 2003, the State has become one of the world s largest electronic goods and automobile manufacturing hubs, he said
