Chennai, January 19: Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi has spoken in favour of love marriages. Fall in love to break the hold of caste.

Presiding over a ‘love marriage’ on Monday, held with the consent of both parties, the DMK chief lamented, “Though we have been speaking about love marriages for many decades, the measure is still in letter and not in spirit.” Stating that there was a general notion that to fall in love amounted to stupidity, Karunanidhi said, “But I am sure, this couple will lead a life to prove that falling in love is the height of wisdom.” “Those who have hailed this marriage as not only a love marriage but also an inter-caste marriage should do soul-searching. In reality, they seek alliance for their sons and daughters only within their caste,” Karunanidhi said.
“This mentality should change and such marriages should increase in society. Our friends should get the encouragement and conviction for realising this.” Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin revealed that the mischief played by his daughter Senthamarai had resulted in this marriage.
Karthikeyan and Revathi were working in the same company.
One day, his daughter sent an ‘I love you’ message to Revathi from Karthikeyan’s mobile without his knowledge.
Irked by the SMS, Revathy shot back a one-word retort: ‘Stupid’ and this had led to a confrontation between the two families.
But in time the apparent dislike for each other turned into love.
