Hyderabad: The identification work of land for construction of permanent buildings of Minority Residential Schools has begun. Government has directed District Collectors to identify land on prime locations so that construction of Minority schools could begin with all modern infrastructural facilities.
It has been decided to identify nearly 5 acre land in rural areas and 1 to 2 acre of land in urban areas. In case of non-availability of government land the government has decided to acquire Waqf lands. However this decision has raised many eyebrows. The idea is being opposed from various quarters as already the government has occupied Waqf properties and lands at various prime locations and their cases are pending with the courts.
As per Waqf Act government has no right to acquire Waqf land, if it so wishes it can get the land on lease from Waqf Board. Now the question arises where will the government find such land which is not in litigation and whose case is not pending with the courts?
10 Minority Residential Schools have been established under Greater Hyderabad limits and acquiring government land for them is highly impossible as open government lands are not available in city limits. In this scenario Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) is eying on Waqf lands for construction of school buildings.
