Hyderabad, December 24: The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) would soon chalk out its agitation programme to mount pressure on the ruling Congress public representatives towards achieving the separate statehood goal.
“The Telangana Congress MLAs and ministers from the region have failed to act as per the wishes of the people. We will make programmes to put pressure on them,” JAC convener M Kodandaram said. He was addressing a gathering during a protest held here as part of the ‘betrayal day’, organised by the JAC today. It was on December 23 two years back that the Centre had “gone back on its promise to form separate Telangana.”
The Centre had announced on December 9, 2009 that steps would be taken for the formation of Telangana. However, the announcement met with protests from the leaders and people of non-Telangana regions, who contended that the announcement was made unilaterally. Following the protests, the Centre had announced on December 23, 2009 that further consultations would be held on the contentious issue. Since then, the pro-Telangana groups have been holding protests on this day every year. The Telangana supporters held a rally from the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram to Indira Park.
