Kadapa, April 26: As the campaigning for the May 8 bypolls in Kadapa district hots up, prominent candidates like Y S Vivekananda Reddy and his nephew Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy are leaving no stone unturned to lure voters.
Congress candidate Vivekananda Reddy, who is locking horns against his sister-in-law and widow of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Vijayalakshmi, today appealed the voters to elect him and vote for the continuation of the welfare schemes launched by his government there.
Meanwhile, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is taking on D L Ravindra Reddy of Congress for Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, assured the weaver community of protecting their interests if he was elected.
Jagan addressed a string of public meetings in Yerraguntla, Muddanur and Jammulamadugu mandals in his road shows.
Recalling the legacy of his father Y S Rajsekhara Reddy, who he claimed had allocated Rs 363 crore for weavers and handloom-operators in the district, in contrast of measly Rs 36 crore by the incumbent government, Jagan appealed the electorate to get him elected.
The bypolls in Kadapa and Pulivendula were necessitated following resignations by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his mother Vijayalakshmi from the Congress party.
Jagan, son of former chief minister Y S Rajsekhara Reddy floated his own outfit YSR Congress Party to take on the Congress in the state.
42 candidates are in fray for the by-election to Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency and 25 for Pulivendula Assembly seat.
