Hyderabad, January 01: IPS officer Ch Dwarka Tirumal Rao has been appointed as the new Cyberabad police commissioner. The state government today issued orders posting Tirumal Rao to the post and he took charge of his new assignment from the outgoing commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy, who retired from service today.
Though the new year began on a happy note for Tirumal Rao, Prabhakar Reddy, who was looking forward for his promotion as Additional DGP before calling it a day from service, was left unhappy as he retired as IGP itself.
With Tirumal Rao’s posting, speculation on whether the government may upgrade the Cyberabad commisioner’s post to the rank of Additional DGP has been laid to rest.
Tirumal Rao, an IGP rank officer, was working as Additional commissioner of police (Coordination) in the Hyderabad City police. “Iam happy,” he told Express and later drove to the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate where he took charge immediately.
A 1989 batch IPS officer, Tirumal Rao previously worked in the key post of DIG, Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) with the Maoist movement suffering heavily during his long tenure in SIB. He also worked as DIG, Anantapur range, IG Octopus and IG Counter Intelligence Cell. As SP, he worked in various districts. He also had a stint in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
