This time its ”Rickshawallas” for Sabah Khan at LFW

Mumbai, March 14: Taking forward from her previous collection ”No Class” which was inspired from lifestyles of people dwelling in the slums of Dharavi here, designer Sabah Khan this time dedicates her new collection ”Tuk Tuk” to rickshawallas at the Lakme Fashion Week.

Sabah had taken everyone by storm with her debut collection ”No Class” at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer and Resort 2010. The collection that was inspired by the slums of Dharavi and the lifestyle of those people earned her an appreciation letter from Prince of Wales. “This time, I dedicate my collection ”Tuk Tuk” to all rickshawallas.

I was inspired by them. Though there are times when people are at logger heads with rickshawallas but they have been the lifeline of common man in India. Even before buses, railways and taxis, they always come to our rescue,” Sabah told PTI in an interview. The earthy colors of uniforms, the bright colored wallpapers on the inside of rickshaw, prominent curve of vehicle and the simplicity of the rickshawalla will been incorporated in Sabah”s new collection.

“I have combined cuts and fabrics worn by ricksawallas with new designs and trends,” the 22-year-old designer said. The collection includes hot pants, dhoti dungarees, waterfront waistcoats, bikini, t-backs and much more. It is apt for the summer as it will give the wearer that uncommon edge and fun, she added. Actress Yuvika Chaudhary, who has appeared in several Bollywood films including ”Om Shanti Om”, ”Summer 2007”, ”Toh Baat Pakki”, will be the showstopper for Sabah at LFW today. “Yuvika aptly suits the collection, that is meant for young people. She is very energectic and bubbly. Also, the comic element that she has shown in her films, seems cool and funky…just like the collection,” Sabah said.
