Time extension to debate will be harmful: Ravula

TDP MLA Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy on Friday opined that extension of deadline set by the President to send Legislature’s opinion on the draft Telangana Bill would have more ill-effects than the good.
Participating in the debate on the draft Telangana Bill in the Assembly, Chandrasekhar Reddy said the President has given sufficient time to the State Legislature to send its opinion on the draft Telangana Bill. “We should properly utilize the time and send the opinion of the members to the President within the stipulated time. There was no need for extension of time”, he opined.
Pointing out that the people of the Telangana region were eagerly awaiting formation of Telangana State after January 23, Ravula exuded confidence that separate State would be carved out in the first week of February. He demanded that the Centre consider the amendments suggested by the TDP regarding Governor’s power, common capital for two years only, setting up of High Courts in new States, pension payment based on nativity and allocation of employees based on nativity.
Making it clear that there was no change in the stand of the TDP on the Telangana Statehood issue, Ravula pointed out that his party did not withdraw its letter given to the Centre on bifurcation of the State. “The Union Home Secretary Goswamy, in a letter to the State Legislature, made it cleat that they were seeking clause by clause comments on the draft Telangana. Hence, there was no need for voting on the draft Telangana Bill”, he maintained.
Suspecting a secret agreement between the Congress and YSR Congress party, Ravula alleged that YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who was kept in the jail in connection with illegal assets cases, got the bail as a part of the understanding. The Congress hoped that YSR Congress Party would extend support to Congress even though it was wiped out from the Seemandhra region. He pointed out that former Joint Director of CBI V V Laxminarayana, who played a key role in investigation of Jagan’s illegal assets case, was transferred and was not yet given any fresh posting.
Strongly objecting, Agriculture Minister Kanna Laxminarayana said the Congress was like mother to all parties as it gave political life to TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu also.
Government chief whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy said the TDP leaders would not live peacefully without criticizing the Congress. The TDP president was talking like a dejected person fearing that his party would lose for the third time due to the Congress party. (NSS)
