Tigers found dead in Maharashtra, cause could be sun stroke

Chandrapur: A tigress was found dead in Chichpalli range of forests in the district on Friday, an official said.

Carcass of the big cat was found in a nullah in the compartment no. 436 of Chichpalli range forest under Chandrapur division at around 9 am by the forest staff who had gone there to collect the camera traps installed in the area for monitoring the movements of tigers, he said.

Honorary wildlife warden and representative of principal chief conservator of forests, Bandu Dhotre said the body parts of the tigress were intact.

A veterinary doctor who conducted autopsy said the feline might have died of sun stroke as temperature in the area is hovering between 46.6 and 47.2 degrees Celsius since the last week.

The tigress might have died sometime after midnight on Thursday as the carcass had no injury marks.

The exact cause of death could be ascertained only after getting detailed report from laboratory, he said.
