Tibetan MP asks India not to give in to China

Karma Yeshi, an MP of the exiled Government of Tibet, today stressed that India should display strong resolve and support people of Tibet rather than bending under political pressure from China. ‘It is high time that people of India should support people of Tibet. Today Tibet is like a hell on the earth as China is exploiting not only Tibet’s rich natural resources but also killing, torturing, imprisoning and harassing the Tibetan people continously,’ alleged Mr Yeshi while talking to media persons here. He demanded that the United Nations must discuss the issue of Tibet based on the resolutions that it has passed in 1959, 1961, and 1965, and continuosly make efforts to fullfil the substance of these resolutions. An independnet international fact-finding delegation must immediately be sent to investigate the ongoing crisis in Tibet and the United nations must take special respnsiblity to ensure that the basic aspirations of the Tibetans inside Tibet are fulfilled. He said to make the world aware about the courageous and selfless acts of brothers and sisters inside Tibet and to know about their sacrifices, the Tibetan Parliament in- Exile launched the world-wide ‘Flame of Truth’ relay from Kochi on July six, the day on which spiritual leader His Holiness Dalai Lama was born. After travelling to 48 regions in India and covering nearly a dozen states for over a month since then, the ‘Flame of Truth’ relay will arrive in Goa at Vasco tomorrow from Bengaluru, he informed. The people of India and Tibetans living in these places actively participated in the relay and signed the appeal, he noted. Mr Yeshi also said on the Tibetan democracy day, which falls on September two, the second leg of the ‘Flame of Truth’ relay will begin in North America, Europe, South- East Asia, Africa and Australia.

This relay will travel through more than 30 countries in these five continenets, he said. During the period, hundered of thousands of signatures will be collected in different countries across the world, through which the torch will travel, he said.

The historic relay will conclude on December 10 with submission of appeal letters and signatures simultaneously to the UN Headquarters in New York City, UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and UN Information Office in New Delhi, the Tibetan MP added. UNI
