Three persons have been arrested on the charges of robbery and firearms, ammunition and looted items including jewellery and Rs 37,000 in cash were recovered from them at Meerut Road industrial area here, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, a combined team of district Crime Branch and police personnel intercepted a car and nabbed the three habitual robbers – Harendra, Surjeet and Pramod – after a brief encounter yesterday, City Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said.
Four other members of the gang riding motorcycles however managed to escape, he said, adding all the three nabbed accused belong to Makreda village.
Twenty-one mobile phones, 11 gold necklaces, three rings, three pairs of earrings and Rs 37,000 in cash, three country-made pistols and eight live cartridges were recovered from their possession, Sharma said.
During interrogation, the three accused confessed of committing more than 100 robberies and said that they were on their way to sell off the booty, he said.
A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the other four robbers, Sharma added.
