Three persons sentenced to life in dowry death case

A court in Bihar’s Rohtas district today sentenced three persons to life imprisonment in a dowry death case six years ago.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge – V Arun Kumar Sharma convicted the deceased woman’s husband Ashok
Prasad and his parents Madan Singh and Nirmala Devi to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of the murder of the victim Neelam Devi.

The court acquitted five other accused persons of the murder charge for want of evidence against them.

According to prosecution, the woman was burnt to death by her husband and others at their house in Barandua village
under Chenari police station area in June, 2006, after her family failed to meet the dowry demands.

The victim’s father Naresh Prasad had lodged an FIR against eight persons, including his son in-law, for the
murder of his daughter for dowry.
