Hyderabad, October 13: Three pseudo-Naxalites, who tried to extort money from a private seed companuy, were today nabbed by the police.
The accused initially tried to extort money from the incharge of M/s Kaveri Seed Company Limited but as he did not budge they demanded money from the company management claiming themselves to be naxalites. The three accused, Velupula Srinivas alias Yesabu, Srikonda Raju alias Raju and I Tirupathi, were masons and natives of Bheemadevarapally mandal in Karimnagar district. “Srinivas came to know that some gangs were extorting money from businessmen in the name of naxalites and decided to follow their footsteps to earn easy money. He told his plans to two others who readily agreed to join hands with him,’’ Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) V B Kamalasan Reddy said in a release.
Two months back, they managed to get the mobile phone number of A Srinivas, who is the plant incharge of Kaveri Seed Company Limited located at Gatlanarsingapur vil lage in Bheemadevarapally in Karimnagar through one of the employee of the company. Then they started calling Srinivas by introducing themselves as naxalites and demanded Rs 15 lakh and threatened to cause harm to the employees of the company.
“As Srinivas did not pay heed to their demand, the accused started calling up the head office of the company and demanded the amount from the management,’’ Kamalasan Reddy said. The management of the seed company lodged a complaint with the Mahankali police and on credible information, the Central Zone Task Force sleuths nabbed the trio today.
The accused were handed over to Mahankali police for further action.
