Srinagar: Encounter started between security forces and militants in Zoonimar area of Srinagar city on Sunday morning. The security forces arrived and called out the militants following information they had received.
As soon as the firing started the authorities put strict restrictions in the adjoining areas and also snapped the mobile and Internet services across Srinagar city.
While talking to reporters later Kashmir Vijay Kumar, IGP, said: “We tried our best to motivate the trapped militants to surrender. We even brought their parents to persuade them to surrender.”
He informed the media persons that two of the militants were active since 2019 and one was involved in attack on two BSF personnel at Pandach area of Soura Srinagar last month.
