Three militants killed in Manipur

Imphal, July 04: Three militants were today killed in separate encounters with security personnel in Chandel and Imphal West districts of Manipur. A gunbattle between personnel of 29th Assam Rifles battalion, combing the Nilam Centre in Tengnoupal area, and unidentified militants left two ultras dead in the wee hours, official sources said.

One AK 47 rifle, one carbine, a grenade and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot, they said adding that some militants escaped during the exchange of fire. In another incident, one unidentified militant was killed during an encounter with police commandos at Waheng Khuman in Imphal West district at around 6 a.

m., sources said adding that one 9 mm pistol with four live rounds were recovered from the spot.

All the three bodies have been sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here for post mortem. Over 290 people have so far been killed in militancy-related incidents in Manipur this year.
