Three militants killed in clashes in tribal Pakistan

Islamabad, August 10: A solider and three militants were killed in clashes between the Taliban and security forces in Pakistan”s northwestern Malakand division and the adjoining tribal region, the military said today. Three security personnel were injured in the clashes.

Troops also captured 10 militants, including a man who indoctrinated young boys to join the Taliban, during search and clearance operations in Malakand division, which includes the Swat valley. A soldier was killed during an exchange of fire between militants and security forces at Kabal in Swat, a former Taliban stronghold.

The gun battle erupted while the troops were conducting a search operation. In the lawless North Waziristan tribal region, three militants were killed in retaliatory firing by security forces when they attacked a military convoy near Razmak today.

Three security personnel were also injured in the incident, the military said. Acting on a tip-off, security forces apprehended Muhammad Sadiq, a school teacher who was indoctrinating young boys to join the militants, near Fatehpur in Swat.

The troops also captured two militants at Drushkhela in Swat. Six suspects were apprehended by security forces during a search operation at Shalko Sar in Swat.

Troops arrested militant commander Yasin with arms and ammunition during a raid at Totalai sub-division in Buner district.
