Three-men marriage gets legal acclaim in Colombia

Bogota: A place where same-sex marriage is legal since April last year, three gay men claimed their polyamorous marriage been legitimised in Colombia.

“We wanted to validate our household… and our rights because we had no solid legal basis establishing us as a family,” said one of the men, actor Victor Hugo Prada, in a video published on Monday, DC reports.

Victor along with his two life partners John Alejandro Rodriguez and Manuel Jose Bermudez have signed the legal papers with a solicitor in the city of Medellin, establishing them as a family with inheritance rights.

“This establishes us as a family, a polyamorous family. It is the first time in Colombia that has been done,” Victor added.

German Rincon Perfetti, who is a lawyer and one of the gay rights activists said this is the first time that three persons Union has been recognised, although there are many such people in Colombia.

“It is a recognition that other types of the family exist,” he said.
After Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, Colombia is the fourth South-American country where same-sex marriages are legalised.
