Mexico, April 05: Three people have been killed in a gun battle between security forces and gang members in the Mexican resort town of Acapulco.
Police and soldiers chanced upon a gang trying to burn down a shopping center.
On Monday, two of the alleged gunmen and a soldier were killed in the two- hour shoot-out, according to the state-run BBC.
Four people were injured during the incident and seven of the alleged gang members were arrested.
A cinema, a supermarket and a number of shops burned to the ground.
The drug trade in Acapulco is controlled by La Familia Michoacana, one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.
Last month, two boys aged six and two were killed when armed gunmen raced through their house in Acapulco trying to chase down another man.
Just days before the incident, an armed gang stormed into a nightclub and opened fire on those inside, killing 10.
A total of 34,600 people have been killed since 2006, when Mexican President Felipe Calderon launched a clampdown on the country’s powerful gangs in an operation which involved tens of thousands of troops.
