Three killed in fresh Yemen protests

Yemen, April 27: Clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces have broken out once again in south Yemen, leaving one protester and two soldiers dead.

Fighting erupted in the port city of Aden on Wednesday when young protesters tried to enforce a general strike by blocking roads and burning tires, Reuters reported.

According to hospital officials, one protester was killed in the attacks and three others are in critical condition.

Two soldiers have also been shot dead in the turmoil, local officials said.

The fresh wave of protests comes amidst opposition calls for a nationwide campaign of civil disobedience to bring down the rule of President Abdullah Saleh.

Witnesses say at least 18 Yemeni cities and towns have so far heeded the civil defiance campaign.
