Three killed as fire engulfs thinner godown in Gulabi Bagh

New Delhi: Three people were killed in a fire that engulfed a thinner godown at Truck Market in Gulabi Bagh area here on Tuesday evening.

Confirming the casualties, a police officer, who was present on the scene, said, “The fire was put out completely by 9 p.m. and three charred bodies were recovered from the godown. They appeared to be between 35 and 25 years of age.”

He said thinner is highly inflammable chemical solvent, which is used to thin oil-based paints or clean up after their use.

Interacting with reporters after the operation, a fire officer said they answered a call around 7.50p.m., and pressed five fire tenders into service.

“We reached the scene by 8.03p.m. and put out fire completely by 9 p.m.. As thinner is highly volatile and inflammable, we have to cool off the godown before recovering the bodies,” he said.

The fire officer, however, said the reason behind the fire was not immediately clear, and it could only be ascertained by an investigation.

“The station house officer (SHO) and I have searched the godown thoroughly and nobody was found trapped inside,” he said. (ANI)
