Three injured in fire near Bandra railway station

Mumbai, March 05: A major fire broke out in a slum near the Bandra railway station here today injuring three people, rendering hundreds homeless and disrupting train services.

“The fire broke out at Garibnagar in Bandra East at around 8 pm, following which 26 fire engines and 16 jumbo water tankers were rushed to the spot,” a fire official said.

Two firemen and a local was injured while dozing off the fire, the official added.

“Trains on Harbour Line were stopped between 9.30 pm to 11.30 pm ,” said Western Railway PRO, Sharad Chandrayan.

“A portion of foot over-bridge had also collapsed but no casualties have been reported yet from the incident,” he said.

Train services on the main western line were running late by 15 minutes and electricity supply had been disconnected in the area, sources said.

Fire has been brought under control but will take at least four hours to completely cool down.
