Three held in Ghaziabad for Honour killing

Lucknow, June 25: Three youths Mandeep, Ankit and Nakul wanted in the sensational Delhi honour killings were nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday from Garh Mukteshwar locality in Ghaziabad district.

Addressing a press conference here UP Additional Director General of Police Brijlal said the arrests of the three accused were effected following a tip-off.

He said that the police received a tip-off that some criminals were moving in Garh Mukteshwar area in a white Santro I-10 car bearing Delhi registration plate DL-8CF-3600. The car was later intercepted during checking, he added.

During interrogation, the three occupants of the car turned out be Mandeep Nagar, Ankit Chaudhary and Nakul Khare, who were the main accused in the Delhi honour killings, Brijlal said.

The culprits, whose sketches were released by the Delhi police, were looking for a place to hide, the official said. The ADG said that the three accused have confessed to having committed the crime. “They are being taken to Ghaziabad for further investigation,” he said. The accused after committing the crime were on the run and went to Dehradun, Mussorie and Rishikesh. “The country-made pistol used in the murder was dumped in the Ganges in Rihsikesh,” police said.

Brijlal said that the accused showed little remorse. “They told the investigators that the girls had brought disrepute to their families and justified their killings for the sake of family honour,” he added.

The Delhi police, which had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on the three, has been informed of the arrests. The triple murders had taken place in Ashok Vihar area of North Delhi on June 20.

The murders had triggered countrywide condemnation even as family members of the accused supported the “honour killings”.
