Three held for stealing Rs 1.49 cr from ATMs

The Nacharam police here on Monday arrested three persons, who stole money from ATMs to the tune of Rs 1.49 crore, at their houses, under the supervision of ACP, Malkajigiri and recovered part of the defrauded money.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri Zone R Rama Rajeshwari, the accused M Sudheer Kumar (24), Mutha Ashok (26) both employees of CMS agency and their associate Golla Manoj took away cash from 23 ATM centers located on the ECIL route. They used to replenish cashin the ATMs. The police also recovered Rs 73 lakh cash, cell phones, motorbike and household articles from them. As part of their duty, the two workers used to go to ATM centers assigned by the office and deposit cash in the dispensing machines.
Sudheer and Ashok were entrusted the job of replenishing cash in 23 ATM centers on the ECIL route. “As the duo was familiar with passwords and unlocking of the machines, they hatched a plan to steal cash without arousing suspicion of the company for a long time,” Malakajgiri DCP R Rama Rajeshwari said. The modus operandi of the duo was to load cash in the ATMs in the morning and return in the night to steal the money from ATMs. In this manner, the offenders managed to take away Rs 1.14 crore in the last five months from December 2014 to April 2015. While the main accused Sudheer took Rs 1.14,50,000, A2 Mutha Ashok, custodian of CMS Hyderabad Rs 9.5 lakh and A3 Golla Manoj pocketed Rs 25 lakh. Out of which, the accused have spent half of the stolen money.
However, during the routine cash audit by the CMS staff, it was found a shortage of Rs 1.49 crore from the ATMs and the manager Samson Roger lodged a complaint with the Nacharam police. The police plunged into action and nabbed the culprits at their houses on Monday. They were charged under Sections 120-B, 420, 406 and 408 of IPC and being sent for judicial remand. (NSS)
