Three flour manufacturing units seized in UP

Lucknow, April 10: Following reports of people falling ill after consuming food articles prepared from contaminated buck wheat, the Uttar Pradesh Food and Drug Authority has seized three flour manufacturing units on suspicion of adulteration.

“Three manufacturing units have been seized in Ghaziabad district on suspicion of adulteration in kuttu flour(buck wheat) during a special drive launched on the directive of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati,” he said.

Buckwheat flour or kuttu flour is used to prepare food during fasts.

The spokesman said that so far nine FIRs had been lodged against 19 people in this connection and 391 quintal kuttu flour worth Rs 27.37 lakh have been seized.

Around 200 people keeping fast during Navratra were taken ill in Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and Gautam Budh Nagar districts after consuming food items prepared from kuttu flour on April 4 and 5.
