Three of a family run over by train

Kolkata, March 03: Three members of a family were mowed down by an express train in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district Wednesday, a railway official said.

“The victims Kanaklata Giri, 60, her son Gautam Giri, 30, and grandson Akash Giri, 5, were walking along the Kalinagar railway bridge in the district, when the Howrah-bound Digha-Howrah Tamralipta express mowed them down,” said R.K Kulshreshta, divisional railway manager of South Eastern Railway (SER).

Following the incident, the local residents squatted along the track demanding a separate bridge for the pedestrians. Express trains like Howrah-Digh Duranta Express were stopped.
