Hyderabad, May 30: A Sunday outing to a lake turned tragic for a family from Bandlaguda when three of them drowned in the water body at Pahadesharif.
On Sunday morning, Usma Begum of Ghouse Nagar along with her sister Hazeera Begum, 17, aunt Shabana Begum, uncle Faheem, 45, their son Arbaz, 11, and another family member, Shabana, 14, went to Ibrahimsagar lake in Jalpally.
After having food, Usma and Shabana got into the water. However, they lost their balance and cried for help. The other family members rushed to their rescue. However, they too began drowning as there was a deep pit under the water at the spot.
Luckily Usma and Shabana managed to grab a tree branch and held on to it but the others began drowning. Meanwhile, locals, who heard their screams, reached the spot and managed to pull them all out.
While Usma and Shabana Begum came out safely, others who had consumed a lot of water were rushed to Owaisi Hospital. Hazeera, 17, Faheem, 45 and Shabana 14, were declared brought dead at the hospital. Arbaz, 11, who was critical, was rushed to Niloufer Hospital for treatment, Pahadesharif inspector P Srinivasa Reddy said.
