At least 10 people, including three engineering students, were killed in separate roads accidents on the New Year’s eve.
According to police, on the New Year’s night, three engineering students who were riding a motor bike were hit by a car near TV9 office on Road No 2, Banjara Hills. All three of them died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Vikhyath Rao, Shravan Reddy and Abuji Harish. All three were pursing ECE – B Tech IIIrd year from different colleges.
In another road accident, GHMC vehicle driver Janardhan dashed his vehicle against a tree on RP Road, Secunderabad and died on the spot. The cleaner Narsimha sustained injuries and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment. In a separate case, a 35-year-man, Ganesh, received leg injuries after he hit another motorcycle near Petlaburj.
According to City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the City Police booked as many as 1,034 enforcement cases under Hyderabad City Police Act and Motor Vehicle Act. The traffic wing of Hyderabad City Police booked a total of 191 cases of drunken driving.
Tragic road accidents were also reported from other parts of the State. Two students of Class 10 were killed in Kadapa district when they fell from their two-wheeler while carrying a New Year cake. In another accident, three people, aged between 20 and 25, were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle in the early hours of Tuesday at Ganded in Ranga Reddy district. They were reportedly returning home after New Year celebrations.
In another accident, two people were killed near Tandur when their two-wheeler hit a police barricade and they were run over by a four-wheeler after they fell down.
