Three Convicted of Dh3.8m Jewellery Theft at Dubai Airport

Dubai, October 26: The Court of First Instance on Sunday sentenced three men to five years each in prison after they were found guilty of stealing and smuggling jewellery worth Dh3.8 million out of the country. They will be deported after serving their terms.

The three Pakistanis were employees of an airline company and were on duty at the Dubai International Airport on May 29, the day on which the theft took place. During the trial, they pleaded not guilty and claimed that a fourth man who was outside the country had committed the theft.

A captain in the Dubai Police confirmed to the prosecutors that the defendants smuggled the jewellery out of the UAE through the airport.

“There was a fourth man involved, but he only handled the sale of the stolen jewellery outside the UAE,” the captain stated.
