New Delhi, April 25: Two people, including a girl, were arrested here and their minor accomplice detained for allegedly cheating people while “helping” them withdraw money from ATMs, police said Monday.
One of the accused was identified as Kunal while the names of the girl and minor were not revealed. They had duped six people within a span of one week, police said.
“The girl had given her brother’s ATM card to her boyfriend Kunal who, alongwith a juvenile, misused the card,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Meenu Choudhury told reporters.
“They were found involved in duping many ATM card users, especially PNB ATM card holders on the pretext of facilitating them to withdraw money from ATM machines,” she added.
According to police, the three would to visit lesser-frequented ATM locations and request people to allow them to use their account for transferring some amount from their own accounts and withdraw it immediately, as they had exhausted their card use limit and had to make some urgent payment.
“During this process, they used to switch the ATM cards of the users and also cleverly know the PIN number so that they could withdraw big amounts from these accounts,” Choudhury said.
The minor was earlier involved in a similar fraud in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar town, police said.
Rs.30,000 cash, and expensive mobile phone worth Rs.28,000 and two PNB ATM cards were recovered from the three.
