Shillong: Three persons hailing from Jharkhand were arrested here after they were caught hiding inside a jewellery shop with an intention of burgling it in the early hours today, police said.
Acting on a tip off, police teams cordoned off the shop located at Khyndailad area and found three persons inside the shop, East Khasi Hills district SP Davis Marak said.
The three persons were identified as Md Rafik Sheikh, Badus Sheikh and Bisan Mondal, hailing from Sahebganj in Jharkand, and were arrested when they were found hiding inside the toilet, the SP said.
The police were alerted of suspicious movement inside the shop premises last night. The trio arrived in town two days ago and stayed at a lodge, the SP said.
They were suspected to have been involved in other burglaries in other parts of the state and in the country as well, the police said.
Their modus operandi is to stay nearby their targeted shop and then burgled, the SP said.
