Tirupati, September 18: Tens of thousands of devotees from across the country gathered here today to witness the car festival of the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara on the penultimate day of the nine-day ‘Brahamotsavam’.
The traditionally bedecked temple car with the ancient ‘utsav’ idols of Lord Venkateswara and his divine consorts, adorned with precious ornaments, was pulled by the devotees around the shrine at Tirumala near here.
The air on the sacred hills was charged with the devotional chantings, Vedic hymns and mantras by the priests and scholars who escorted the car.
Hundred of bhajan troupes from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra piloted the car procession.
