‘Thiruvabharanam’ procession starts

Pandalam (Ker), January 12: The ceremonial procession carrying ‘Thiruvabharanam’ (sacred ornaments) to adorn Lord Ayyappa as part of the ongoing pilgrimage season at Sabarimala started from here today.

The ornaments, believed to have been offered to the temple by the king of erstwhile Pandalam, the foster father of Manikantan (Lord Ayyappa), are taken to Sabarimala for ‘Makaravilakku’ festival every year.

The jewellery was shifted to the nearby Dharmasastha temple early this morning from Pandalam palace for taking it to Sabarimala.

A wooden box containing the jewellery, another one with pooja vessels and the third consisting of a flag were taken to Sabarimala by ‘Guruswamis’ after performing special poojas by the ‘melsanthi’ (chief priest) of the temple.

A 25-member armed police force was also accompanying the procession all the way to Sabarimala.
