Third Telangana International Kite Festival from Jan 13

To promote tourism in Telangana in a big way, the State government will be conducting third “Telangana International Kite Festival (TIKF) – 2018” in the city from January 13 to 15.

Addressing the media at Secretariat here along with Secretary Venkatesham, Tourism & Tribal Welfare Minister Ajmeera Chandulal said the kite festival will be conducted at Parade Grounds. The Kite festival is a coincident being conducted on Makara Sankranthi Festival with fund and fervor followed by Sweet Festival. “Educate a girl Child and she will change the world” is the theme of the Kite Festival to be attended by 11 countries, several States, 11 pan India Clubs and 40 International Kite flyers will participating in the grand event, the minister said.

Chandulal said Malavat Purna, the youngest girl in the world to scale Mount Everest, is the brand ambassador for the Kite festival to be celebrated on grand note. State Tourism in coordination with the National Tourism Department will be conducting the kite festival being sponsored by departments like TSTDC, Singareni Collieries, Mineral Development Corporation, Southern Travels, TSRTC, GHMC Hyderabad Metro Rail, TSWREIS, Aga Khan Academy and Air Asia. The minister said the kite festival is for social cause to create awareness of the importance of education and empowerment of girl children and expect a footfall of one lakh visitors to the mega event.

Tourism Secretary Venkatesham said noted Indian Mountaineer, Malavat Purna will be inspirational to the youngsters on the occasion. He released a book on kites, displayed a big beautiful kite and launched a website on the occasion. He said they will also conduct an International “Sweet Festival” for the first time on the occasion to have about 1000 varieties of sweets on display. He also said a mammoth Inter-state Sweet Festival will be conducted to have on display delicacies, including international, Indian, State and domestic and house-made. The visitors can enjoy the feast with two festivals on the occasion, he added.
