Chandigarh, Nov 26: Laptops and LCD screens worth lakhs of rupees were reportedly stolen from two shops in Sector 20, Chandigarh, early on Wednesday morning.
The thieves, who were four in number, came in two cars and fled after loading them with the goods. They probably made more than one round of the shops to load the goods, the police said.
The thieves, reportedly in their late twenties, were well dressed. They were spotted by the nearby rickshaw pullers around 6 am. The police said they were loading the goods in a carefree manner to avoid suspicion.
Around 18 laptops, 20 LCD monitors, computer accessories, processors and software CDs were stolen from Varun Enterprises. Shop owner K L Rawal said he came to know of the theft around 9 pm.
The second shop, North India Computers, belongs to Rajesh Sharma, who said that 22 laptops and 20 LCD monitors were missing. Both shops are located opposite each other on the first floor of the building.
The estimated worth of the stolen goods is between Rs 15 and 20 lakh, Sharma reportedly told the police.
Sharma said watchmen remain in the market till 5 am and that the thieves knew about their schedule.
SHO of Sector-19 police station, Inspector Ram Gopal, said they were assessing the loss and investigations were on.
