Thieves strike Chandana Bros shopping mall

Chandana Brothers shopping mall in Kukatpally Housing Board Colony was looted early on Thursday and the thieves fled with gold and cash.

A hole in the wall was drilled by them to gained entry into the multi-storied building. They broke open the lockers and fled with the valuables.

The close watch cameras were switched off before the mall put up the shutters at night. The security personnel were in the cellar.

It seems that unidentified accused conducted a survey of the five-storied shopping complex, according to V. Sreekanth Goud, inspector of police, KPHB.

“They drilled a hole in the wall on the third floor. From there, they came down to the ground floor, broke open the lockers and took away 130 gm of gold and some cash,” Mr Sreekanth said. Some valuables were also left outside instead of keeping them in the safe, said police.

“The staff had turned off the surveillance cameras while shutting down the mall. The security personnel were in the basement and hence the incident went unnoticed,” police said.

A case was registered based on the complaint and is being investigated. Police is examining CCTV footage from other cameras in the area. The loss is yet to be finding out. The total value of the stolen property is yet to be ascertained.

The surveillance camera was of no use if they were switched off.

“The staff had turned them off while shutting down the mall. The security personnel were in the basement and hence the incident went unnoticed.” police said.
