A thief in police custody attempts suicide due to police harassment

Mr.Syed Shujaath Ali, resident of Kotla Alijah created panic when he attempted to commit suicide in Chandrayangutta police station by cutting his throat with blade.

He was rushed to hospital and a case to attempt murder was registered against him. He was involved in a case in Saifabad which occurred in 2010. Since then, policemen belonging to Chandrayangutta and Meer Chowk police stations are harassing him.

He blamed Meer Chowk police crimes inspector, Mr. Nayak and sub-Inspector, Mr.Anivesh Reddy and Constable, Mr. Srikanth that they demanded Rs 50 thousand as bribe.

They threatened him that if he doesn’t pay this amount, third degree interrogation process will be executed. He also alleged that they are exerting pressure on him to become police informer and to work for the police, otherwise he would be harassed.

Mr.Kishtaiah, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Meer Chowk denied these charges. He told that he was interrogated as a thief in a normal way. Mr.Srinivas, inspector police Chandrayangutta said that he was called to police station and he was being interrogated.

He told that Syed Shujaath Ali is a thief and a shutter lifter. The inspector told that during interrogation, he suddenly struck his head against the wall, took out a blade from his pocket and cut his throat in order to escape from interrogation.

He was sent to hospital immediately and after the treatment, he was let off. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against him. Police is investigation the case.
