Nagpur, May 28: In a shocking incident that gives the city a bad name, a 6-month pregnant woman was raped by two men who were remotely known to her husband, at the MIDC in Hingna on Tuesday night. The two culprits, Durgesh Tiwari and Sandeep Dhore, first spiked Rajan’s drink to knock him senseless and then took turns to brutally savage 20-year-old Mona (both names changed).
The cops have nabbed Tiwari while Dhore is absconding.
Not wanting to cause any harm to the baby she was carrying, a helpless Mona couldn’t even fight back. She was in a state of shock when we met the couple at the Government Medical College and Hospital on Friday. After two days of mulling over the incident, they were brave enough to lodge a complaint with the MIDC police on Friday following which the cops nabbed the key culprit. The couple and Tiwari hail from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh.
The couple, who were married 11 months ago, shifted to Rajiv Nagar in December last year. Rajan, employed at a private company in MIDC, said Tiwari was keenly trying to befriend him. “Tiwari had come to help my relative build a home. We were introduced to him then. He would come to my place when I would not be there,” he said.
Mona never liked Tiwari from the outset. When he visited her house in Rajiv Nagar slums on Hingna Road in Rajan’s absence a few days ago, she turned him away with the help of a neighbour.
On Tuesday morning, Tiwari landed at the couple’s house again and spent several hours chatting.
“He wanted to have tea and then he offered me liquor too. I wanted to drink somewhere close to my place but Tiwari insisted that we go to his house. It was there that he spiked the drink that knocked me senseless,” said Rajan. “I tried to stop drinking but they forced me to consume more.”
Tiwari then asked Mona to come and fetch her husband. When she reached Tiwari’s house, she found the room locked. Tiwari handed over the key to Mona and pushed her in while she was trying to open the door.
Dhore had arrived by then. The duo went on to disrobe a stunned Mona, who was sprawled on the floor, and rape her.
All the while, Rajan lay in deep sleep in the adjoining room. “They used cloth to gag Mona,” said Rajan.
The duo later allowed Mona to open the room where Rajan was asleep. Mona splashed water on his face and helped Rajan get back home. Tiwari and Dhore threatened Mona not to reveal the incident to anyone.
Rajan continued to remain under the effect of the drug on Wednesday too and finally came to the MIDC police station on Thursday. The offence was registered on Friday.
“The whole thing seemed a planned effort,” said a cop from Hingna police station. “We are confident of nabbing Dhore soon.”
