‘There are no differences in BJP on Uma’s return’

Indore, June 20: Evading a direct reply on the re-induction of firebrand leader Uma Bharti into BJP and taking charge of Uttar Pradesh poll campaign, senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that there are no differences in the state unit on the issue.

“Since this decision (on Uma Bharti) was taken, I have been continuously touring and have not even entered the UP border. But there are no differences in the party on the issue,” Singh told reporters.

“Some leaders from Uttar Pradesh leaders met me after this development and I found that there are no differences in the state party on the issue,” he added.

When asked if the BJP is annoyed due to senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, Singh said that since the BJP is a large party, there are chances of people having grievances. “But, I think we can sort out these issues by sitting across the table,” he said.

He termed the BJP president Nitin Gadkari’s tenure as better than his own term as the party chief. “I can say, on a personal level, that Gadkari is doing better than me,” Singh said.

To a question on Congress terming Yoga guru Baba Ramdev as the mask of the RSS and the BJP, he expressed displeasure and alleged that Congress is indulging in such talks as it wanted to deviate people’s attention from the issues of corruption and black money stashed in foreign banks.

Asserting that the BJP doesn’t want a “toothless” legislation against corruption, the former party chief said the government should present the Lokpal in the Monsoon session of Parliament as promised earlier.

Singh alleged that due to the “faulty economic policies” of the UPA government and corruption, the country is again facing an economic slowdown, with inflation soaring to record levels.

The former BJP president appealed to the economists to conduct a research to find out why inflation is always on the rise when the Congress-led governments rule the country.
