Having felt insulted on being accused of stealing a gold chain, a 40-year-old laborer committed suicide by setting himself ablaze.
According to Meerpet police, the deceased, P Venkatesh, took the extreme step at his residence in Vambay Colony of Nandavanam on Thursday. He was admitted to the Osmania General Hospital where he succumbed to burn injuries a few hours after admission.
Enquiries by the police revealed that Venkatesh was working in the house of one Swami for the past few days. A gold chain went missing from Swami’s residence on Wednesday and he allegedly suspected Venkatesh to be the thief and questioned him. Felt insulted, he resorted to the extreme step, police said.
