Theft attempt in Home Secretary’s chamber in Secretariat

Some unidentified burglars tried to break open the chambers of Home Secretary Gautam Kumar in the high security zone of the State Secretariat.

The attempt was noticed on Saturday afternoon when Gautam Kumar noticed that some screws of his door locks of 502 and 503 in the ‘A’ Block were missing. He immediately alerted the security staff and later lodged a formal complaint at the Saifabad Police Station. Gautam Kumar told reporters that no files were missing from his office and an enquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Additional DCP Central Zone Harsh Vardhan said that the burglars did not try to break the door. However, they might have tried to open the lock as some screws were found missing.

While admitting that the number of security personnel deployed for Secretariat security were insufficient, he said that the burglary attempt should not be viewed as a security lapse. Besides questioning the staff, he said efforts were being made to identify the burglars through the CC camera footage. He said no one has been taken into custody in this case. (INN)
