Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied with the words ‘Thank you very much Mr. President’ when U.S President Barack Obama greeted him with the Gujarati salutation ‘Kem Chho’, at the start of the 90-minute dinner meeting at the White House here.
Briefing media persons after the meeting, MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, “President Obama greeted Prime Minister Modi with the traditional Gujarati salutation ‘Khem Chho’. He (Prime Minister Modi) responded, Thank you very much Mr. President.”
Akbaruddin also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a special edition of the book, ‘Bhagwad Gita -According To Gandhi’ to President Barack Obama.
The special edition of the Gita presented to President Obama was a special reprint ordered by Prime Minister Modi which was prepared in Delhi. It had khadi on its cover and silk covering in a box.
The dinner menu also included specialties such as Goat cheese and baby bell peppers, crisped halibut, compressed avocados, saffron basmati rice, mango creme brulee and ginger tuille, although Prime Minister Modi only had warm water as he was fasting.
US Vice President Joe Biden, US Secretary of State John Kerry, National Security Advisor Susan Rice and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) chief Rajiv Shah were among others present at President Obama’s dinner for Prime Minister Modi.
