Thailand most preferred Asian tourist spot by Indians in 2015

Indians mostly preferred short haul destinations in Asia while planning overseas trips last year, with Thailand emerging as the favourite destination, a recent survey showed. “Short-haul destinations in Asia were preferred by Indian travellers in 2015. This was mainly due to 13 long weekends that influenced Indian travellers’ choices to opt for short-haul holiday destinations,” according to latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) report of Hotels.com.

Thailand emerged as the most chosen destination among Indian globetrotters in 2015, it said. The data is drawn from bookings made at thousands of hotels worldwide listed on Hotels.com website.

Bangkok topped the list of most preferred international destination by Indians in 2015 as it replaced Dubai which was at the second spot.

Singapore and London continue to remain the perennial favourite for Indians which were at the third and fourth positions, respectively.

The new entrant on the list includes Bali at the 10th place, followed by Phuket, Paris, Hong Kong and New York at ninth, eighth, seventh and sixth positions, respectively.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Mumbai continue to be at number one and two positions, respectively, for Indians travelling within the country in 2015 akin to a year back.

Hyderabad switched places with pink city Jaipur (Rajasthan) bagging the sixth position in 2015 as compared to a year ago. Destinations such as Goa, Bengaluru and Chennai retained third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Ahmedabad in Gujarat ranked at 10th position replacing Agra in Uttar Pradesh, the survey report stated.
