A Thailand delegation recently offered prayers at one of the holiest Buddhist shrines in Bodh Gaya in Bihar, where Lord Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. Nearly 200 women officers from police department as well as army mediated at the Mahabodhi Temple complex under the Bodhi tree after shaving their head and donning saffron and white clothes. They would lead a nun”s life for 12 days to take lessons in Buddhism from monks. The Bodhi tree, a sacred fig near the Mahabodhi Temple which is said to be a descendent of the one Buddha sat under for three days and nights in the sixth century BC, before finding enlightenment. The delegation would also visit other places associated with Lord Buddha. (ANI)
