Terror threat to Badminton Championship?

Hyderabad, August 08: The World Badminton Championships scheduled to begin here on Monday has been enveloped in a security blanket following specific
information that terror operatives are plotting to target it.

The information that was relayed by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to the state authorities was that terror elements would attempt to strike at the international players as they did against Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistan recently.

It has learnt of a terror threat to the week-long World Badmintion Championship starting in Hyderabad from Monday (August 10). Sources told that the organisers of the World Badminton Championship have been warned by Intelligence officials of an impending threat to the event.

According to sources, specific inputs from the Intelligence Bureau suggest that terror groups might target the international players who are in Hyderabad for the world championship.

An Intelligence Bureau team has met the organisers of the Championship over the past two days and briefed them about security concerns.

About 200 international players have already reached Hyderabad. They are staying at four different locations near the Gachibowli stadium, which is the venue of the World Badmintion Championship.
